Tue-Fri: 11.00 - 19.00
In the shadow of the Campanone, the Palace of the Podestà tells you a story that has distant origins: on the ground floor, immerse yourself in the Roman Bergamo of the archaeological excavations, then go up to the first floor and admire the wonderful frescoes of the Renaissance inner court.
Here you will find the 16th century Museum, a multimedia and interactive path made of images, sounds and suggestions. We invite you to make a journey back in time, among prestigious palaces and ancient convents, to discover the stories of noble families struggling for power, ambitious merchants seeking for fortune, great leaders at the service of the Republic of Venice.
Immersed in the life of the sixteenth century, you will witness the construction of the Walls, an indelible sign of the Venetian domination, nowadays UNESCO heritage.

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE?
THE MIDDLE AGES IN A FEW STEPS
In the Middle Ages the city was studded with towers, a symbol of power and defence: the civic tower, now known as Campanone, is one of the few remaining ones, climbing on its top you will admire another tower, Gombito, just a few steps from Piazza Vecchia. Climb down, cross the square, walk past the tower and continue to Piazza Mercato del Fieno, you will discover the tower-houses and Convento di San Francesco, other nearby traces of a distant period, which was not at all dark!
A JOURNEY THROUGH THE CENTURIES
Climb up the steps to the top of Campanone and admire the city from above, climb down and discover centuries of layered history: under the medieval foundations of the tower and of Palazzo del Podestà you will discover the Roman archaeological excavations and, on the first floor, the Museum of the 16th Century that will amaze you with the Venetian era; have a good journey through time!
