Piazza Vecchia
Città Alta, Bergamo
In the heart of Piazza Vecchia stands the civic tower, called Campanone, 52,76 meters high, which offers a breath-taking panoramic view of the old town. At the top, reachable on foot (230 steps) or more comfortably using the lift, you will find the largest bell of Lombardy. Even today, every evening at 10 pm, the Campanone has been suggestively chiming one hundred times as a perennial memory of the closing of the gates of the city, along the walls, during the Venetian domination.

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE?
A CITY, THREE PERSPECTIVES
In the heart of the historical centre, climb to the top of Campanone and admire the 360-degree view of the entire city. You will see the Italian flag waving on the Rocca tower, which you can reach by a pleasant and short walk to the hill of Sant’Eufemia. From the tower, discover a breath-taking view and, if you are fast, do not forget to reach Convento di San Francesco: from the second cloister, your gaze will be lost in the green valleys around Bergamo.
A JOURNEY THROUGH THE CENTURIES
Go up the steps to the top of Campanone and admire the city from above, climb down and discover centuries of layered history: under the medieval foundations of the tower and of Palazzo del Podestà you will discover the Roman archaeological excavations and, on the first floor, the Museum of the 16th Century that will amaze you with the Venetian era; have a good journey through time!
